7-Day Honeymoon Itinerary for Fiji Road Tripping Around Viti Levu

Viti Levu has it all: idyllic beaches, authentic Fijian villages, mountainous landscapes and fringing coral reefs. For the couple who want to be on the move and travel independently, this “Fiji Honeymoon Itinerary: 7 Days (Viti Levu Road Trip)” is for you. Experience a variety of landscapes and cultures as you circumvent Fiji’s largest island while staying in utterly romantic resorts and indulging in activities ideal for newlyweds. We’ll go through all our top recommendations in this honeymoon itinerary for Fiji.

Note that this itinerary is for the active couple who wants to see it all. For a more relaxed itinerary with less travel, see How to Spend 7 Days on a Honeymoon in Fiji TI058. If you’re more interested in island-hopping, check out Fiji Honeymoon Itinerary: 7 Days (Idyllic Islands).

How to Get Around Fiji in 7 Days

The seven-day honeymoon itinerary below is a road trip itinerary on Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. For ultimate flexibility and privacy, we recommend renting a car. In particular, renting a car from Nadi where your trip begins and ends (avoiding any one-way fees). The itinerary mainly takes you on Viti Levu’s sealed roads, but note that some inland roads are gravel and are likely to require a 4×4 vehicle. Check out car rental company recommendations in The Best Car Rentals in Fiji, as well as driving tips in 10 Safety Tips for Driving in Fiji.

Day 1 – Nadi to the Suncoast

Travel time: 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on where you stay

After landing at Nadi International Airport, pick up your car rental and hit the road! Today, you’ll be exploring the Suncoast, the northern region of Viti Levu spanning between Lautoka and Korovou. The heart of the Suncoast is Rakiraki (2 hours from Nadi), home to a number of laidback four-star resorts, upmarket hotels and a luxury private island resort. On your way through the Suncoast, check out the bustling markets in Lautoka, stop by architectural sights like the Church of the Black Christ, or even take a special inland trip to the Navala Village with traditional “bures” (make sure your car is 4×4 for Navala). See more recommendations in 10 Must-Dos on the Suncoast or check out The Wedding & Honeymoon Guide to the Suncoast for more advice.

Day 2 – Suncoast

It’s time to do a little more exploring of the Suncoast, whether it’s snorkelling or scuba diving at some of the amazing outer coral reefs of the Bligh Water or sticking to dry land with a day trek into the stunning interior of Viti Levu visiting villages and waterfalls with Talanoa Treks. There are certainly ways to relax (this is “Fiji time” after all) perhaps with a couples’ massage or a romantic private dinner on the pontoon of Dolphin Island.  Here are some more romantic recommendations…

Romantic Activities on the Suncoast

  • Snorkel or scuba dive together in the famous Bligh Water
  • Kayak around the islands of Nananu-i-Ra and Nananu-i-Cake
  • Treat yourselves to a romantic sunset cruise
  • Indulge a candlelit private dinner on a floating pontoon
  • Go on a journey of discovery together with a guided trek through Viti Levu’s interior with Talanoa Treks

For more information on each of these activities, check out 10 Romantic Activities on the Suncoast for Couples.

Day 3 – Suncoast to Suva

Travel time: 2-3 hours depending on where you stayed

Get back on the road today and enjoy a scenic road trip through the rest of the Suncoast region to Suva, Fiji’s capital city. When you reach Wailotua Village, ask for a guide to see the Snake God Cave with amazing limestone formations. You can also stop by Takalana Bay Retreat for one of their amazing dolphin cruises on the Moon Reef. When you arrive in Suva, you might want to check out the Fiji Museum or the Municipal Market. There’s also fantastic short walks through the Colo-i-Suva Forest Park to beautiful waterfalls. Guided walks of Colo-i-Suva are also available with Kay Services Tour (more info on Viator and Tripadvisor). But in terms of romantic experiences, the offering in Suva isn’t huge. Nevertheless, this is what we have got…

Romantic Activities in Suva

  • Indulge in a rejuvenation couples’ spa treatment
  • Enjoy fine dining together at the historic Grand Pacific Hotel
  • Tackle Mt Korobaba, Suva’s highest peak, together

For more information on each activity and a couple of more suggestions, take a look at our 5 Romantic Activities in Suva for Couples.

Day 4 – Suva to the Pacific Harbour

Travel time: 40 minutes

There’s so much to do on the Pacific Harbour and its off-shore islands that we recommend leaving Suva early to fit in a couple of full days of experiences. The Pacific Harbour is known as Fiji’s “Adventure Capital” thanks to its offering of white water rafting, jet boat tours, ziplining, shark diving, jet skiing and more! If you’re adventure-seekers then you’ll have more than enough to do. Otherwise, there are certainly more excuses to relax with a cocktail in hand, get a massage or go on a sunset cruise.

Day 5 – Pacific Harbour

Did we mention all of the adventure activities you can do here? Check out 10 Must-Dos on the Pacific Harbour & Beqa for more of the Pacific Harbour highlights. However, if you want to stick more to the theme of romance, then there are private island excursions and resort “Romance Packages” to indulge in. Check out more of our recommendations below or see Wedding & Honeymoon Guide on the Pacific Harbour & Beqa for more advice.

Romantic Activities on the Pacific Harbour

  • Get the castaway experience on a private island for the day
  • Indulge in one of the resorts’ Romance Packages, including spa treatments, bubbles, private dining and more
  • Snorkel or scuba dive among the coral gardens of the Beqa Lagoon
  • Explore hidden coves and inlets in a double kayak together
  • Experience the thrills of a jet ski safari

For more information on each experience, take a look at our 10 Romantic Activities on the Pacific Harbour & Beqa for Couples.

Travel time: 1-2 hours depending on where you stay

Some of the best beaches on the mainland can be found along the Coral Coast in Fiji, making it a stunning place to spend the last full day of your honeymoon. The beaches are backed by luxurious resorts and even some more affordable adult-only resorts – a great way to set the tone right for tranquillity and romance. You may want to check out some of the highlights of the Coral Coast, such as the Biausevu Waterfall, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park, or more listed in 10 Must-Dos on the Coral Coast. Alternatively, here are some more honeymoon-appropriate activities…

Romantic Activities on the Coral Coast

  • Enjoy a gourmet dinner in a private cabana
  • Spend the day in your resort’s adult-only pool and bar
  • Jump on a jet ski tour around the islands
  • Go horse trekking along the beach
  • Enjoy some bubbles in your honeymoon bure

Day 7 – Coral Coast to Nadi International Airport

Travel time: 1-2 hours depending on where you stayed

Enjoy one last drive in Fiji before returning to where you started at Nadi International Airport. But first, stop by some of the cool cafes for breakfast, with some fantastic options both along the Coral Coast and Nadi. See Guide to the Best Eats & Restaurants on the Coral Coast and Guide to the Best Eats & Restaurants in Nadi for cafe recommendations. Then simply return your rental vehicle and catch your flight to your next destination.
