Ocean-to-Table Delights: Bonefish Restaurant’s Seafood Extravaganza

As we stepped into Bonefish Restaurant, the tantalising aroma of freshly prepared seafood wafted through the air, setting our taste buds tingling with anticipation. This seafood haven offers a diverse menu that caters to every palate, from local Fijian delicacies to international favourites.

Seafood Showstoppers

The showstoppers at Bonefish are undoubtedly their ginormous sharing platters. We couldn’t help but gawk at the “Big Fat Crabby Crabs” being served to a neighbouring table – a mountain of succulent crabs accompanied by fragrant rice, crisp vegetables, and a zesty dipping sauce.

Other crowd-pleasers include the “Gi-Nourmous Bonefish Seafood Platter” and the restaurant’s namesake “Bonefish” – a whole fish baked to perfection with garlic butter, market vegetables, and fried rice.

For those seeking an authentic Fijian experience, we highly recommend the “Ika Vaka Miti”. This local delicacy features kokoda (Fijian-style ceviche), rourou (taro leaves), a fresh salad, and your choice of grilled or fried fish. It’s a flavour explosion that truly captures the essence of Fijian cuisine.

Something Familiar

If you’re craving something more familiar, Bonefish doesn’t disappoint. Their “Fish & Chips” – lightly battered walu (Spanish mackerel) served with seasoned chips, coleslaw, lime, and tartar sauce – is a classic done right.

For the land lovers, there’s the “Bonefish Burger” (available with a beef patty or crumb-fried chicken) and, yes, even a juicy steak for those who prefer turf over the surf.

Bonefish also offers an intriguing Asian spin on seafood. We were particularly intrigued by the “Miso Glazed Tuna” – grilled tuna steaks served with steamed rice, stir-fried vegetables, and a chilli soy dipping sauce.

The “Masala Fried Fish”, marinated in a blend of curry, turmeric, and chilli, is another flavourful option that caught our eye.

Family-Friendly Options

Families will appreciate the kid-friendly options on offer. Little ones can choose from fish fingers with tartar sauce and fries, honey soy chicken strips with rice, a mini Margherita pizza, or mini hotdog sticks with tomato sauce and fries.

The Big Mistake…

A word of advice: come hungry! We made the mistake of visiting after a day of indulging in buffets and meals on island day trips from Denarau.

While we envied the amazing plates coming out of the kitchen, we had to stick to lighter options. The vegetarian and gluten-free option of “The Salad Bowl” – a colourful medley of roasted pumpkin, beetroot, tomato, peppers, lettuce, and sweet potato, topped with dollops of Caesar, pepper, and basil pesto – proved to be a delicious and satisfying choice.

We also sampled the “Bonefish Grill”, featuring the fish of the day with lemon and herb-seasoned vegetables – a simple yet perfectly executed dish.

… And for Dessert?

No meal is complete without dessert, and Bonefish certainly delivers on the sweet front. Chocolate lovers will adore the “Hot Chocolate Chili Volcano” – a warm chocolate brownie with a touch of chilli, vanilla ice cream, and truffle mash.

For the truly indulgent, there’s the classic “Bonefish Brownie” – a giant double chocolate brownie smothered in chocolate ganache, vanilla ice cream, truffle, and doused in molten chocolate.

If you prefer something lighter, the “Passion Fruit Pavlova” – a crisp meringue topped with cream, fresh pineapple, and passion fruit pulp – is a refreshing choice.

We couldn’t resist trying theGold Digger” – a rich presentation featuring mountains of whipped cream, hot chocolate fudge, honeycomb crumble, and oodles of “Bling”. We also indulged in an irresistible crème brûlée from the blackboard menu – a perfectly creamy treat with a satisfyingly crisp caramelised top.

And that was just the food! Much to our surprise, the drinks certainly gave us something to write about…

Sipping Paradise: The Bonefish Beverage Experience

After (and, admittedly, before) indulging in Bonefish’s delectable cuisine, we couldn’t resist exploring their impressive drink menu.

A Creative Cocktail Journey

First up was the interactive “Shark Attack”. This DIY cocktail comes with a set of instructions, shooters on a blackboard, and adorable shark toys to guide you through the process. The accompanying calamari nibbles were a nice touch, giving us something to munch on while we played mixologist.

Next, we embarked on a “Long Journey”. This signature cocktail is a sophisticated twist on a whisky sour, blending rye whisky, freshly pressed lemon, maple syrup, egg white, and Angostura bitters. The result? A drink with a frothy crown and silky texture, perfectly balanced between gentle sweetness and tangy citrus notes.

Mixing Favourites!

Beyond the cocktail “journeys”, Bonefish’s extensive cocktail menu caters to all tastes. The “Tropical Mojito” offers a refreshing twist on the classic, available in mango, passionfruit, or watermelon flavours.

For those who like a bit of heat with their sweetness, the “Chili Paloma” combines tequila, grapefruit juice, chilli, and pineapple for a spicy-sweet sensation.

The “Blue Push” is a vibrant blend that’s as visually striking as it is delicious, mixing white rum, blue curacao, and pineapple juice.

Of course, if you’re in the mood for something more traditional, Bonefish also offers classic cocktails like the French Martini, Tequila Sunrise, Pina Colada, and an array of daiquiris to satisfy any craving.

Beers, Wines and Smoothies

For beer lovers, Bonefish offers local favourites “Fiji Bitter” and “Fiji Gold”, as well as imported options like “Heineken”, “Corona”, and “Guinness”. Wine enthusiasts can enjoy a selection of whites and reds, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Shiraz, available by the glass or bottle.

Non-alcoholic options aren’t overlooked either. Mocktails like the “Shirley Temple” and “Nohito” (a virgin Mojito) provide refreshing alternatives. For those seeking simpler fare, soft drinks and tropical smoothies are also on offer.

The Perfect Combination of Ambience and Dining

Having savoured the delectable dishes and sipped on refreshing drinks at Bonefish Restaurant, we couldn’t help but be equally impressed by the ambience. This spacious eatery is tucked away in a prime spot at Port Denarau Marina, offering a welcome respite from the bustling tourist crowds.

For those seeking a romantic evening, we highly recommend securing a table right on the waterfront. Time your dinner with the sunset for a truly magical experience. (Trust us, you won’t regret it!) As the day fades into night, the restaurant transforms into a starlit paradise, perfect for a late-night dining affair.

Families, fear not! Bonefish has thought of everything. At the back of the restaurant, you’ll find a children’s play area with ample space for the little ones to burn off energy without disturbing other diners. It’s a win-win for parents and kids alike!

We were particularly impressed by the attentive staff. There’s no shortage of helping hands here, ensuring your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional.
