Scooter/moped hire in Fiji is only available in the busy city of Nadi on Fiji’s largest island, where the occasional pothole and pedal-heavy driver kind of makes it more of an adrenaline activity than a practical way to get around. Nevertheless, you can rent a scooter in Fiji, which we’ll go over in this guide.

What is it Like to Hire a Scooter in Fiji?
Scooter hire in Fiji can be a good way to get through the busy town of Nadi with ease if you’re used to driving a scooter/motorbike. However, scooters and motorbikes are not common on Fiji’s roads, and drivers are rather uneducated and oblivious to motorcyclists. With that in mind, riding a scooter is a little riskier in Fiji than what you might be used to.
As for “riding around the island”, Viti Levu is Fiji’s largest island, and the circling island road is 470 km (292 mi) long. This is quite the undertaking on a scooter, but it is still doable for those seeking a multi-day adventure. Be aware of potholes, however, which can be extremely hazardous for motorcyclists.

Currently, you can only hire scooters/mopeds from Go Dirty Tours, which is based in Nadi. They have the following scooters available for hire:
- Yamaha Crypton 110cc Scooter (semi-automatic)
- Wave 150cc Scooter (automatic)
They also rent out a couple of motorbikes, including:
- Harley Davidson 1200cc Sportster Motorbike (manual)
- Harley Davidson Superglide Motorbike (manual)
All scooters and motorbikes are two-seaters and 4 stroke.
What Does the Scooter Rental Include?
Scooter hire in Fiji comes with the following:
- A full tank of fuel
- Third-party insurance
- Unlimited kilometres
What is the Cost of Scooter Rental in Fiji?
Scooter rental costs approximately FJ$80 a day. While third-party insurance is included in scooter rentals, there is the option to pay FJ$20 a day to be eligible for an excess of FJ$300 on your credit card should you need to pay damages. Otherwise, full payment will be required for any damage done to the scooter through your credit card.

In order to hire a scooter in Fiji, you need to have the following:
- A valid motorbike license for any scooter over 50cc (which all of the scooters available to hire in Fiji are)
- A credit card.

Scooters also need to be returned with a full tank of fuel, or you will be charged a premium rate per litre plus a service fee.

The Road Rules of Fiji
It’s all well and good knowing how to ride a scooter, but you will also need to know the basic road rules of Fiji in order to keep yourself and others safe. The main rules you need to know are:
- Drive on the left-hand side of the road
- The speed limit is 50 kph (31 mph) in urban areas
- The speed limit is 80 kph (50 mph) on the open road
- When approaching a roundabout, give way to vehicles on the right
- The blood alcohol level is 80 mg
- Motor vehicle owners are required to have a minimum of third-party insurance (this is included in scooter rentals)
- You must be at least 18 years old and have a full driving license to legally drive
- Observe all road signs.
