Car Rental Companies in Fiji
Hitting the road in Fiji is an amazing way to see the best of Viti Levu – Fiji’s main island and Vanua Levu, the second-largest island. Why just settle for what’s available in one resort when there is a whole country to explore? See the stunning beaches of the Coral Coast, the vibrant cities of Nadi and Suva, the rugged interior of the island and more! Renting a car in Fiji allows you to experience Fiji at your own pace and is the perfect option for independent travellers. Choosing a car rental company, however, can be pretty overwhelming especially with the huge offering of car rental companies at the Nadi Airport alone. So you have a better idea of your options and what inclusions are offered with each Fiji car rental company, we have put this quick comparison together.
Before you hit the road, make sure that doing a self-drive tour in Fiji really is the best option for you; take a look at How to Drive in Fiji for more information.
5 Things to Look For When Comparing Car Rentals in Fiji
Before we dive into our comparison of the car hires in Fiji, know what to look for with these car rental comparison tips.
Location
Contrary to popular belief, not all cars need to be rented from Nadi International Airport. Look at your itinerary and where you want to start and finish your trip. Choose a car rental company with depots in convenient locations for you or that can deliver vehicles to your chosen resort. A way to keep the cost down is to pick up and drop off your rented car in the same location in order to avoid one-way fees. Alternatively, choose a company that doesn’t charge one-way fees. Finally, you can save money by choosing a pick-up location that is away from the airports, as most companies will charge a “premium location” or “airport location” fee. For more money-saving tips, take a look at the 9 Ways to Save Money on Car Rental in Fiji.
Prices and Inclusions
Car rental companies in Fiji have very similar basic inclusions. However, beware of some low prices advertised as it’s likely that the compulsory insurance fee is not included in the price. Luckily, we mention which companies advertise their prices in this way in this comparison.
Vehicles Offered
Fiji’s car rental companies tend to have a generous offering of vehicle types to suit all the road types you are likely to encounter in Fiji. Nevertheless, just make sure that your chosen car rental company has the 4WD that you may need to explore Viti Levu‘s inland gravel and 4WD roads. On the other hand, you don’t need to overdo it with an expensive car rental with all the bells and whistles if you are just following the Queens Road or Kings Road around the coast of Viti Levu. Service
Once you have picked one or two car rental companies to compare, give them an email or a phone call and ask them a few questions. See how helpful they are in their answers. This little test will give you an idea of how helpful the company will be should anything go wrong during your trip.
Payment Options
Nowadays, not everyone wants to have a Visa or MasterCard credit card. If that’s the case for you, double-check which car rental companies accept other payment methods. We make sure to note which ones offer more than Visa and MasterCard payments in the article below.
