Is it Better to Exchange Money in Fiji or Overseas?
Better exchange rates, therefore, cheaper currency conversions to Fijian Dollars, can be found in Fiji compared to overseas. This is often due to overseas currency exchange bureaus and banks having to buy in Fijian Dollars themselves before selling it to customers. Of course, there are exceptions, but if you’re unsure whether your local overseas currency exchange bureau offers a good deal, the general rule is that you’ll likely get cheaper exchange rates in Fiji.
Do Shops in Fiji Accept Foreign Currencies?
Most shops, restaurants, and vendors in Fiji primarily accept Fijian Dollars. You will need to use local currency for most transactions. However, some luxury hotels and tourist-centric areas may accept NZD or AUD, but this is not widespread. All in all, it is advisable to exchange your foreign currency for FJD before making purchases.

An easy go-to to exchange money in Fiji is the banks, particularly from international brands. There are multiple banks offering currency exchange in Fiji’s major towns across Viti Levu (Nadi, Suva, Sigatoka, Navua, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki and Tavua), Vanua Levu (Savusavu and Labasa), Ovalau (Levuka) and Taveuni (Naqara).
BSP Bank (Bank of the South Pacific) Currency Exchange
BSP offers not only some of the best currency exchange rates in Fiji but also the widest range of currencies. It is also one of the more transparent banks in Fiji, whose currency exchange rates are regularly published on its website.
BSP is the largest bank network in Fiji, with branches across Viti Levu, as well as in the main hubs of Vanua Levu and Taveuni. Opening hours are from 9 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday.
See the ATM section below to learn more about using BSP’s ATMs for withdrawing Fijian Dollars.
ANZ (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group) Currency Exchange
Another bank that offers currency exchange in Fiji is ANZ. They offer reasonable exchange rates on NZD, AUD and USD to FJD.
ANZ has branches in Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Suva and Nausori on Viti Levu and Labasa on Vanua Levu.
Opening hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
See the ATM section below to learn more about using ANZ’s ATMs for withdrawing Fijian Dollars.
Westpac Currency Exchange
The Australian bank, Westpac, has a significant presence in Fiji, including at Nadi International Airport. They offer somewhat reasonable exchange rates on NZD, AUD and USD to FJD at their town branches. However, their exchange rate is less favourable at the airport compared to their town branches. That said, their airport branch still tends to offer a better exchange rate than other currency exchange bureaus located at the airport.
Westpac has branches in Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka, Suva, Rakiraki and Nausori on Viti Levu, Savusavu and Labasa on Vanua Levu and Levuka on Ovalau.
Opening hours are from 9 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
See the ATM section below to learn more about using Westpac’s ATMs for withdrawing Fijian Dollars.
Bank of Baroda Currency Exchange
Although not as abundant as other banks in Fiji, Bank of Baroda is one of the more transparent banks whose currency exchange rates are regularly published on its website. They offer currency exchange for around seven currencies, including USD, NZD, AUD, GBP, EUR, SGD and INR.
Bank of Baroda can only be found on Viti Levu, in Suva, Lautoka, Nadi and Ba. These branches also have ATMs.
Opening hours are from 9 am to 3:30/4 pm, Monday to Friday.
HFC (Home Finance Company) Currency Exchange
Fiji’s local bank, HFC Bank, also offers currency exchange. Exchange rates are published on their website, of which they offer a wide range of currencies, including some of the South Pacific Islands.
HFC has branches mainly in Suva but also Lautoka, Nadi and Nakasi on Viti Levu and Labasa on Vanua Levu.
Opening hours are from 9 am to 3:30/4 pm, Monday to Friday.
See the ATM section below to learn more about using HFC’s ATMs for withdrawing Fijian Dollars.
© FijiPocketGuide.comCurrency Exchange Bureaus in Fiji
When it comes to exchanging your money with currency exchange bureaus in Fiji, you’re spoiled for choice! Currency exchange bureaus are plentiful, especially on the main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. You’ll find popular brands like No 1 Currency (FEXCO), Lotus Foreign Exchange, and Singapore Exchange dotted around the towns and tourist hotspots.
While these bureaus might not always offer the best rates (banks usually have the edge here), they make up for it with convenient locations and quick service. Perfect for when you need some Fijian dollars in a pinch!
Our top tip? We recommend converting your cash in the main towns of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu before venturing out to the rural areas or smaller islands.

© FijiPocketGuide.comHotels and Resorts That Offer Currency Exchange in Fiji
Travellers staying in some of Fiji’s most comprehensive resorts will be pleased to know that a few offer this convenient service among their vast array of facilities. Here are some options that will make managing your money a breeze:
Radisson Blu Resort Fiji, nestled on Denarau Island, ensures you’re well taken care of with its on-site currency exchange service. As if that wasn’t enough, they’ve also got an ATM available. You’ll find everything you need without even stepping foot off the resort grounds.
Another gem on Denarau Island is the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa. This luxurious retreat understands the importance of hassle-free holidays, which is why they’ve included currency exchange services in their impressive list of guest amenities.
If you’re planning to tee off in paradise, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa has you covered. Not only do they boast a world-class golf course, but they also offer foreign currency exchange services as part of their guest services. It’s just another way they ensure your stay is as smooth as your golf swing (we hope!).
The final resort that we know of with currency exchange is Fiji’s largest resort, Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort & Spa. Located on Yanuca Island on the Coral Coast, the five-star resort offers currency exchange services for its guests, as well as an ATM.
With these fantastic options, guests don’t have to worry about hunting down a currency exchange bureau. While it’s certainly convenient to exchange currency at your resort, keep in mind that these services may not always offer the best exchange rates.
Our Personal Recommendation: The Cheapest Place to Exchange Currency in Nadi
Since you’ve made it this far, we’ll thank you by sharing the cheapest place we’ve found to exchange currency in Nadi.
Those staying in Wailoaloa can pop into the convenience store located within the foyer of Smugglers Cove Beach Resort. This lowkey convenience store just happens to have some of the best currency exchange rates we’ve found in the Nadi area (or, at least, when we last visited). You’re welcome!
© FijiPocketGuide.comWithdrawing Fijian Dollars from ATMs
ATMs are another worthy way to get Fijian Dollars in Fiji with an overseas debit or credit card. You cannot, however, exchange foreign currency at an ATM; only make a withdrawal.
What International Cards Do Fiji ATMs Accept?
Fiji’s ATMs accept overseas debit and credit cards issued by Visa, MasterCard and American Express, as long as there is a four-digit PIN encoded. BSP ATMs, typically accept Visa, MasterCard, JCB, Union, American Express and BSP PacifiCard.
There is likely to be a withdrawal fee for withdrawing currency from an ATM from an overseas bank account, usually around a FJ$5 flat fee. Note that your bank is likely to charge a conversion surcharge of around 3-5%.
See Can You Use Your Credit or Debit Card in Fiji? for more details.
Where are the ATMs in Fiji?
There are more than 100 ATMs in Fiji, mostly found in Fiji’s main towns across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as well as in limited numbers on Ovalau and Taveuni. See ATM locations in our guides: Information, Shops & Services in Fiji.
