Nadi’s Budget Activities

If you want to experience Fiji on a budget, then you are onto a good thing in Nadi. The hub for tourism in Fiji is just moments away from the international airport, cutting away at those otherwise big travel expenses that come with travelling to Fiji’s outer islands. Nadi is full of affordable accommodation, affordable eateries and, as you’re about to discover, free and cheap things to do in Nadi! While there are a few costs involved with seeing the sights of Nadi, we have made sure to only include activities that are under FJ$30 per person.

While you’re here, make sure to check out our The Guide to Nadi on a Budget.

1. Visit the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple

Located in Nadi Central, the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple is a gloriously colourful building definitely worth adding to your sightseeing itinerary. Admission is around FJ$5 where you will be given a sarong (sulu) to cover your legs and be asked to remove your shoes before exploring the carvings and paintings of Hindu deities around the temple. You can get some great photos from outside of the temple, but taking photos inside is prohibited.

2. Walk Around the Garden of the Sleeping Giant

Visit Fiji’s largest collection of orchids, walk among the lush tropical forests, and sip on a complimentary fruit juice in the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. Entry is under FJ$20 to explore this little piece of paradise, making this activity easily earn its spot on this list of cheap things to do in Nadi.

3. Go to the Beach

If your budget won’t allow for a day trip to the idyllic beaches of the Mamanuca Islands, then you can still get some beach time in Nadi. Nadi’s two main beaches, Wailoaloa Beach and Nadi Bay Beach, are good options for your usual beach activities such as sunbathing, walking and popping in at the resorts for food or cocktails. A better-looking beach, where it’s also safe to swim, lies on the Coral Coast at Natadola Beach. The beach is about an hour’s drive south of Nadi but makes for a good day trip. The beach also has a couple of resorts to check out.

4. Get Muddy at the Sabeto Mud Pools

With entry at around FJ$30 per adult, the Sabeto Mud Pools are a great way to experience some “Fiji time” pampering on a budget. The concept of the hot pools is to lather yourself in wet mud, let it dry on your skin, then wash it off in several different hot pools in order to work wonders for your skin. The locally-run attraction often has cheap and real Fijian meals to try too, which we fully recommend!

5. Check Out the Lomolomo Guns

A free attraction and incredible viewpoint lie at the Lomolomo Guns at the foot of the Sabeto Mountains. Don’t forget your camera for the views over Nadi Bay and all the way to the Yasawa Islands from this WWII battery.

6. Visit the Fiji Culture Village

For under FJ$25, you’ll get entry into the traditional-style Fijian village at Fiji Culture Village. The authentic thatched bures (houses) surrounded by lush tropical flowers and forest gives you a fun way to learn about the history of Fiji. Fiji Culture Village gives visitors an insight into crafts like Tapa making and pottery, as well as traditions explained by your guide.

7. Go Shopping

This activity only remains a cheap thing to do in Nadi if you don’t buy too much! But it’s always fun to browse the shops and markets of Nadi while buying plenty of wares for under FJ$30. Fijian crafts, Indo-Fijian fashion and more can be found all along Nadi’s Main Street. Souvenir shopping is made pretty easy here, with the option of large souvenir outlets like Jack’s of Fiji and Tappoo selling mass-produced souvenirs to the alternative shopping experience of the Nadi Handicraft Market.
