5-Day Honeymoon Itinerary for Fiji

There’s hardly a better place to start the rest of your lives together than on the idyllic islands of Fiji. Couples looking to spend their honeymoon on Fiji’s smaller islands, this Fiji Honeymoon Itinerary: 5 Days is for you.

This Fiji honeymoon itinerary takes you from the arrival airport in Fiji, Nadi International Airport, across the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands and back. We also include recommendations for romantic experiences and honeymoon accommodation on each island.

Note that this itinerary is for the couple who wants to see several locations within five days. For a more relaxed itinerary with less travelling, see How to Spend 5 Days on a Honeymoon in Fiji.

How to Get Around Fiji in 5 Days

The five-day honeymoon itinerary below involves a little road travel but mostly overwater travel as you island-hop around the Mamanuca and the Yasawa Islands. Here is a quick rundown of how to get around the islands.

Overwater Transport in Fiji

The majority of this 5-day itinerary involves getting between Viti Levu (Fiji’s mainland), the Mamanuca Islands and the Yasawa Islands. While the fast catamaran ferries provide a slightly more affordable option to get between islands and Port Denarau on Viti Levu, water taxis provide a more private experience that’s a great way to celebrate your honeymoon. Check out 5 Ways to Get to the Mamanuca Islands for more details as well as alternative transport. For getting back from the Yasawa Islands to Viti Levu, we recommend a helicopter/seaplane transfer for a real honeymoon treat. Find out more in 5 Ways to Get to the Yasawa Islands.

Road Transport in Fiji

The first day of this itinerary will require you to take road transport to Port Denarau from Nadi International Airport. This can be done via taxi, private transfer and even the bus. Find out more information in 5 Ways to Get to Denarau Island.

Day 1 – Nadi International Airport to the Mamanuca Islands

Travel time: 20 minutes by road, 35-45 minutes by water taxi or catamaran ferry

Welcome to Fiji! Because you only have five days, we recommend getting out of Nadi soon after landing and start making your way to a more romantic setting, the Mamanuca Islands. The Mamanucas is a group of 20-something islands scattered across reef-filled waters. Each island is small, either with an interior of coconut palms or an ancient volcanic peak. Across many of these idyllic islands are resorts to suit all budgets, whether you’re looking for a down-to-earth adventure at a backpacker resort or absolute luxury in an adult-only retreat. Check out your options below for where to spend the next two nights in the Mamanuca Islands.

Day 2 – Mamanuca Islands

Today, you have the time to do as much or as little as you want. Complimentary activities like stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking or hiking are a personal way to explore your surroundings – just the two of you. Or how about treating yourselves to a special experience like a secluded beach picnic? Your resort will organise transport to either a private island or deserted beach along with a gourmet lunch. If you’re both feeling more active, how about strengthening your bond by learning a new skill together? Learn to scuba dive over the next 3-4 days with a PADI Open Water course. The course can be transferred to another PADI dive centre (of which there are many in the Yasawa Islands where you’re heading next). Find more ideas in the list below and in The Wedding & Honeymoon Guide to the Yasawa Islands.

Romantic Activities in the Mamanuca Islands

  • Have a picnic on a private island or beach
  • Do a sunset cruise with canapes and beverages
  • Challenge yourselves to a scuba diving course
  • Explore your chosen island on a secluded hiking trail
  • Navigate the waters in a double kayak

For more information on each experience and more, head to our 10 Romantic Activities in the Mamanuca Islands for Couples.

Day 3 – Mamanuca Islands to the Yasawa Islands

Travel time: 1h15min-3h45min

This morning, hop back on the water taxi or the South Sea Cruises ferry (more info on Viator and Tripadvisor) to your next stunning island destination: the Yasawa Islands. Notice the more dramatic scenery with larger islands, volcanic peaks and vast lagoons. Resorts and Fijian villages often share the same island, so immersing in the Fijian culture is effortless when staying in a Yasawas resort. Speaking of, get settled into your accommodation. Again, there’s a real mix of affordable resorts with “honeymoon bures” to luxurious boutique island resorts.

Day 4 – Yasawa Islands

You’ll be glad to spend an extra day of your honeymoon in these paradise islands. Plus, there are a few natural attractions well worth hopping on a boat excursion for, from the fluorescent waters of the Blue Lagoon to the impressive limestone features of the Sawa-i-Lau Caves. If you’re looking for something more romantic, take a look at the list below or check out the Wedding & Honeymoon Guide to the Yasawa Islands.

Romantic Activities in the Yasawa Islands

  • Indulge in a couple’s beach massage
  • Go for a morning walk and watch the sunrise
  • Treat yourselves to a private beachfront dinner
  • Snorkel with giant manta rays or sharks
  • Take part in some Fijian crafting or cooking class

Day 5 – Yasawa Islands to Nadi International Airport

Travel time: 35 minutes

Before you get the blues about your Fiji honeymoon coming to an end, there is one last special experience to celebrate this special occasion. Embark on an intimate helicopter or seaplane flight over the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. There’s nothing like seeing the small islands and vast coral reefs decorating the ocean from above – definitely a memorable experience to share with your loved one. Your flight will bring you straight back to Nadi International Airport where you can catch your flight out of Fiji with ease.
