5-Day Family Itinerary for Fiji

Looking for an active itinerary that’s fun for the whole family? Want to see more than just one resort? Then this 5-day family itinerary for Fiji might just be for you. When travelling as a family, the associated costs of overwater travel can get pretty expensive, so with that in mind, we’ve created a 5-day itinerary that sticks to the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu. With that, you can make use of the cheap public transport system or enjoy a family road trip by renting your own car. This Fiji family itinerary for 5 days takes you on a journey between Nadi along the Queens Road through the Coral Coast and the Pacific Harbour to Suva where you can then catch a short flight back to Nadi.

For a more relaxed itinerary with less travel, see What to Do for 5 Days in Fiji on a Family Vacation TI040.

How to Get Around Fiji in 5 Days

The itinerary below sticks to Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu, and the main road, the Queens Road. Here are some of your best options for road transport on Viti Levu.

Renting a Car in Fiji

Giving you the most freedom, renting a car in Fiji is a good way to achieve an active holiday with ease. Although more expensive than taking the bus (see information below), rental cars provide ultimate convenience. Check out The Best Car Rentals in Fiji for recommended car rentals from Nadi, some of which allow you to drop off the car rental in Suva – your end destination for this itinerary.

Taking Public Transport to Travel Fiji in 5 Days

All the destinations mentioned on the itinerary below are connected by local and express buses. This is by far the cheapest option for getting around Fiji. Once you arrive at a destination, there are taxis and resort transfer services available. Learn more about Public Transport in Fiji here.

Day 1 – Nadi to the Coral Coast

Drive time: 1-2 hours depending on which resort you choose

Welcome to Fiji! For a 5-day itinerary, we recommend getting out of Nadi ASAP and start discovering some of Fiji’s best coastline. The first stop is the Coral Coast, a superb holiday region for families thanks to the array of resorts with family-friendly activities and kids’ clubs. And don’t worry, you have plenty of time to try a few activities on the Coral Coast, as you have more time on this itinerary to enjoy the region tomorrow.

Things to Do on the Coral Coast with Kids

  • See tropical wildlife, play on the waterslides and ride the ziprails at the Kula Wild Adventure Park (more info on Viator and Tripadvisor)
  • Horse trek along Natadola Beach
  • Join Sigatoka River Safaris for a jet boat excursion to remote Fijian villages among amazing scenery (on Viator and Tripadvisor)
  • Treat the kids to a PADI Bubblemaker scuba diving lesson (8 years+)
  • Get involved in a glass-blowing workshop at Hot Glass Fiji.

And more! See 10 Things to Do on the Coral Coast with Kids for more ideas.

Day 2 – Coral Coast

Just so the family stays fresh, we recommend staying on the Coral Coast an extra day. If your kids do have the energy to burn, how about a walk in the fascinating Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park? Alternatively, visit Biausevu Village where you’ll interact with local villagers and be guided to a stunning waterfall (don’t forget your swimwear and cash). And if that doesn’t suit, then there are more suggestions in The Guide to the Coral Coast for Families.

Day 3 – Coral Coast to the Pacific Harbour

Drive time: 1-2 hours depending on which resort you choose

At the eastern end of the Coral Coast is the Pacific Harbour, also known as the “Adventure Capital”. Among some of the more insane activities, such as diving with bull sharks, there are soft adventure activities suitable for children. The Navua River winding into the interior of Viti Levu is a natural playground and the base for jet boating tours, white water rafting and river tubing!

Things to Do on the Pacific Harbour with Kids

  • Enjoy surreal snorkelling at the Beqa Lagoon
  • Go river tubing (rafting in an inflatable ring) over the gentle rapids of the Navua River
  • See a cultural theme park at the Arts Village
  • Experience grade 1-3 white water rafting on the Navua River (8 years+)
  • Swim, build sandcastles and beachcomb at Debua Beach and at the beach resorts.

See more activities in 10 Things to Do on the Pacific Harbour with Kids.

Day 4 – Pacific Harbour

One day is never enough on the Pacific Harbour. Either take the time to relax with the family or try one of the experiences you might have missed yesterday. How about zooming through the forest with Zip Fiji on a ziplining course (more info on Viator and Tripadvisor)? For those families staying at one of the resorts, don’t miss a cultural show known as a “meke” which is traditional Fijian dancing that the kids are sure to remember for a long time.

Day 5 – Pacific Harbour to Nadi International Airport

Drive/flight time: 1h40min/35 minutes

Don’t get the holiday blues just yet as you’re about to enjoy a scenic flight across the mountainous interior of Viti Levu. On your way to Nausori Airport, be sure to stop by Suva, Fiji’s capital city, to check out the markets and the Fiji Museum. If you have more time, the Colo-i-Suva Forest Park is a stunning rainforest area with short walks to waterfalls. Guided walks of Colo-i-Suva are also available with Kay Services Tour (more info on Viator and Tripadvisor). After reaching Nausori Airport, you’ll have a quick flight back to Nadi International Airport where you can catch your connecting flight to your next destination!
