Not only can you transition into “Fiji time” soon after arriving at Nadi International Airport, but any flight by helicopter is a magical experience capturing stunning vistas of azure waters, coral reefs, inland mountains and/or small island atolls. Note that “helicopter transfers” refer to flights with set rates and times, possibly shared with other travellers, while a “private charter” goes at your selected time for your group only.

5 Things to Know About Hiring a Helicopter in Fiji

  • Helicopter flights are subject to weather conditions. See typical weather conditions in Fiji here
  • Note that helicopters have a baggage limit of either 15kg or 23kg, so be sure to pack light if taking a helicopter
  • On top of that, there are people weight limits for certain aircraft. It’s often the case that passengers over 100kg (220lb) are subject to an excess weight charge
  • Child fares are available for helicopter transfers so be sure to enquire
  • Some helicopter companies offer services for filming, photography and medical evacuations

Viti Levu (The Main Island)

Nadi and specifically Nadi Airport has the most abundant choice of helicopter transfers and charters in Fiji. The below helicopter charters can also depart from Denarau Island.

Island Hoppers Fiji offers helicopter transfers from Nadi Airport to selected resorts in the Mamanuca Islands, Yasawa Islands and the Coral Coast. They also offer an express transfer between Nadi and Denarau, as well as charter flights from Nadi to the Pacific Harbour and the Suncoast. Island Hoppers Fiji also offers services for commercial operations. All helicopters have air conditioning and have a baggage allowance of 15kg (33lb) per passenger.

Heli-Tours Fiji is also worth considering to hire for transfers, charter flights and commercial operations such as aerial filming. They offer transfers between Nadi Airport and selected resorts in the Mamanuca Islands, Yasawa Islands, the Coral Coast and the Pacific Harbour and Beqa. Flights are either in an R44 or Squirrel aircraft with a baggage limit of 15kg (33lb) per person.

Pacific Island Air offers both transfers and private charters from Nadi Airport. While Pacific Island Air offers seaplane charters and transfers to all regions, the helicopters are only available for Denarau Island, the Mamanuca Islands, Yasawa Islands, the Coral Coast, the Pacific Harbour, the Suncoast and Vanua Levu. They also offer inter-island flights in the Mamanuca Islands. The helicopter used is an Airbus AS355 with a baggage limit of 15kg (33lb).

Vanua Levu and Taveuni

[Update: Savusavu Helicopters is no longer operating. We will update this article if another helicopter operator becomes available].

Fiji’s second-largest island, Vanua Levu, is home to one commercial helicopter operator, Savusavu Helicopters. Transfer flights here depart from Savusavu Airport or Labasa Airport with options to fly to resorts on Vanua Levu or the nearby island, Taveuni. Both transfer flights and private charters are available. The helicopter used is a Robinson R44 and has a baggage limit of 23kg (50.7lb). Scenic flight experiences and medical evacuation flights are also available.

Plane and Seaplane Flights

If you want to get a little further in Fiji, while still getting the private charter experience, consider using one of the fixed-wing flights available.

Planes and seaplanes are on offer to take you directly to selected resorts, as well as more remote destinations, such as Suva, the Lomaiviti Islands, Taveuni and the Lau Islands.
