Frequently Asked Questions About the Suncoast

We’re here to plan the best trip ever, so we won’t waste any time in this Suncoast travel guide giving you the questions that most travellers have about visiting.

Where is the Suncoast of Fiji?

The Suncoast is located on the northern coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island. It stretches from Lautoka in the east to Korovou in the west, encompassing the towns of Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki, as well as a picturesque coastline known for its sun-drenched beaches and rugged interior.

This region is less developed than other parts of Fiji, offering a more authentic and off-the-beaten-path experience. You’ll love the stunning scenery, from golden beaches to lush mountains.

What makes the Suncoast special?

The Suncoast is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural experiences. It’s renowned for its sunny climate (hence the name), pristine beaches, and excellent diving and snorkelling spots.

The area is also rich in Fijian history and culture, with ancient sites and traditional villages dotting the landscape.

How do I get to the Suncoast?

The most common way to reach the Suncoast is by car from Nadi International Airport. The drive along the scenic Kings Road takes about 2-3 hours, depending on your final destination. In this slightly less developed part of Fiji, five-star resorts aren’t quite a thing here. You will find luxury, however, in the tranquillity, the authenticity of the culture and mountains-to-sea adventures available where the activities are sure to at least make you feel richer in the things that matter. That isn’t to say that there aren’t some pretty special places to stay in between a private island retreat and a few luxury villas.

Adult-Only Holidays on the Suncoast

While adult-only resorts are becoming ever more popular in Fiji, unfortunately, this trend is yet to reach the Suncoast. However, the dread of being surrounded by overenthusiastic children can be easily remedied by following these simple tips:

  • Choose exactly who you share your getaway with by staying in one of the Suncoast’s private villas
  • Plan your visit to the Suncoast during Fiji’s low seasons – preferably between January and March when resorts are much quieter
  • Some accommodations on the Suncoast are much more targeted at couples, rather than families, such as The Fiji Orchid
  • Ask about the quietest rooms in the resorts. The honeymoon hideout at Dolphin Island and the Luxury Ocean Front Villa at the Volivoli Beach Resort, for instance, is tucked away in quieter areas of the resort complex to set the right tone for guests.

If you have your heart set on adult-only resorts, then think about changing your destination. The Coral Coast is also on Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu but on the south coast.
