5 Tips for Visiting Fiji on Limited Time and Budget

Let’s face it, not everyone has time and money! Here are some tips to help you make the most of your time and money in Fiji.

  • Look out for resorts that offer complimentary airport transfers. There really is a lot! Free transfers also imply that they are not too far away from the airport so you will have time to get there and back.
  • Choose to spend your time in Nadi, the Coral Coast, Lautoka, Denarau or the Mamanuca Islands. Remember those names: they are the closest holiday destinations to the airport.
  • Don’t turn your nose up at backpacker accommodation. While you might think they are all about shared dorms, there are still plenty with private rooms at a cheap price!
  • Transport is where you will save the most money, so try to choose a destination where you can see and do a lot without paying for taxis or other transport. We’re thinking resorts with your ideal activities or staying in the city.
  • Don’t plan everything to a super tight schedule. It’s not a joke when people say that Fiji runs on “Fiji time“.

3 Days Adults-Only Trip to Fiji

With a wide offering of budget resorts and backpacker hostels, Fiji is the perfect destination for solo travellers, couples, groups of friends and backpackers on a budget. What’s more, these backpacker-style resorts are not teaming with screaming children! When in Fiji for a limited time, we recommend heading to one of the budget resorts close to Nadi International Airport, which will offer free or affordable transfers. Once there, you’ll have a wide range of free and cheap activities. While not all the budget resorts we mention are “adult-only”, you’ll find very few families around, as these accommodations appeal more to like-minded backpackers and budget travellers.

3 Days on Viti Levu

Although you don’t have enough time to travel too far from Nadi International Airport, you still have the time to kick back in a resort and experience “Fiji time“. In the Wailoaloa Beach area, just outside of Nadi, you have several budget hotels and backpackers to choose from, see our 7 Best Backpackers in Nadi. With most offering free airport transfers and dorm rooms as cheap as FJ$27, you can’t go wrong on price! Accommodations like Bamboo Backpackers have a pool, is just a short stroll from the beach, has nightly entertainment and so much more to make your budget getaway in Fiji a blast!

3 Days on the Islands

For those budget travellers that want an island getaway for most of your limited time in Fiji, then your best option is to head to the Mamanuca Islands, just a quick boat transfer or ferry from the mainland. With cheap boat transfers from Wailoaloa Beach or Port Denarau in Nadi, you’ll have just enough time to reach your island escape and relax in one of the island resorts, such as Ratu Kini Backpackers on Mana Island or the Funky Fish Beach Resort on Malolo Island. There, you’ll have a whole host of free or cheap water and beach activities to enjoy, from snorkelling to playing beach volleyball with fellow backpackers. Many of the resorts along the Coral Coast, which sits on the southern coast of Viti Levu, offer airport transfers either for free or at a very reasonable price. Escape the hustle and bustle of Nadi and Denarau to the breathtaking Coral Coast for your special time away together.

3-Days on the Coral Coast

The Coral Coast has a huge range of resorts across all price ranges. Double rooms can be found as cheap as FJ$175 a night to some more “treat-yourself” resorts at around FJ$340 per night. 3 Days in Fiji for Families on a Budget

For a quick getaway with the family, your cheapest option is to stay on the main island of Fiji, Viti Levu. Some of the islands best-value family-friendly resorts are a 20-minute drive from the airport, but the complimentary shuttles more than make up for the trip. Alternatively, you can still have that island getaway you have always dreamed of on a budget, but, understandably, at a higher price than staying on the mainland.

3-Days on Viti Levu

You don’t need to venture too far from Nadi International Airport to have an amazing family trip to Fiji on a budget. Budget resorts, such as First Landing Beach Resort, offer complimentary shuttle services to the resort. From there, you have three days to enjoy the pools, nightly entertainment, kayaking, open-air cinema and more free activities! Plus, there are plenty of affordable activities, such as island excursions, cooking classes and kayaking to get stuck into. For younger ones, the Nalamu Nippers Kids Club will enjoy a mix of Fijian games and activities. Nannies are also available.

3-Days on the Islands

If you can’t resist heading out on the water and spending your time in an island paradise, then this can still certainly be done on a budget. Your best bet is to head to one of the Mamanuca Island resorts, which are just a quick ferry ride from Port Denarau. We recommend the Plantation Island Resort with reasonable rates on their “Standard Double Pool Rooms” which comes with a double bed and two single beds. At the resort, let the kids enjoy the FREE kids club or hire a nanny for a very reasonable FJ$5-6 an hour. For the teens, the Lairo Club hosts a range of fun activities where teens get to mingle with others their own age.
