How to Get Around Fiji in 7 Days

The itinerary below involves a bit of road travel but mostly overwater travel using luxury transport methods such as private transfers, flights and cruises. Here is a quick rundown of how to get around Fiji in style.

Road Transport in Fiji

The only island in this itinerary with roads is Viti Levu. For those staying in luxury resorts of Denarau Island, private resort transfers are available between the resort and Nadi International Airport. See 5 Ways to Get to Denarau Island for more options.

Overwater Transport in Fiji

For this itinerary, you will need transport between Viti Levu, the Mamanuca Islands and the Yasawa Islands. Your most luxurious options for transport are fast catamaran ferries, private water taxis and scenic seaplane/helicopter flights. Find out more in:

Day 1 – Nadi International Airport to Denarau Island

Travel Time: 20 minutes

Welcome to Fiji! After arriving at Nadi International Airport, your private transfer will take you straight to Denarau Island where you can immediately transition into “Fiji time“. The manmade island has an array of five-star resorts with some of the world’s biggest names in hotels: Radisson, Westin, Sheraton, Hilton and more! Needless to say, this is a fabulous place to get over your flight before your action-packed itinerary in Fiji begins. Make use of the day spas, explore Port Denarau town, and indulge in fine Fijian food.

Luxury Experiences on Denarau Island

  • Indulge in a spa treatment at one of Denarau’s day spas
  • Catch some big game on a private fishing charter
  • Play a round on the Denarau 18-hole championship golf course
  • Spend the day by the pool in the luxurious adult-only complex of your resort
  • Indulge in fine dining at the Ports O’Call restaurant.

For more details and more suggestions for things to do, see 10 Luxury Activities in Denarau.

Day 2 – Denarau Island

Relax and unwind! This is what Fiji time is all about and Denarau can certainly provide. If you do have itchy feet, however, there is a wide range of day trips you could be doing, such as visiting Navala Village – an authentic Fijian village with traditional-style “bures”. See more suggestions in our Day Trips from Denarau Island or see The Luxury Guide to Denarau Island.

Day 3 – Denarau Island to the Mamanuca Islands

Travel time: 35-45 minutes

It’s time to leave the resort bubble of Denarau and see the real Fiji starting with the 20-something islands peppering the turquoise waters of the Mamanuca Group. Take one of the fast catamaran ferries or private water taxis to your chosen luxury island resort where you’ll have complimentary use of kayaks, paddleboards, snorkelling equipment, sailing boats and more to use until your heart’s content. Check out a coconut husking demonstration, learn to weave a Fijian basket or simply enjoy feeling the sand between your toes.

Luxury Experiences in the Mamanuca Islands

  • Discover the islands on a sunset cruise while sampling canapes and beverages
  • Escape to a secluded beach on a beach picnic experience
  • Immerse in the Fiji culture with a village visit or cultural lesson
  • Try Pacific Rim cuisine at your luxury resort’s restaurants
  • Travelling with kids? Treat them (and yourselves – hehe) to a day at one of the fantastic kids’ club

Find out more about each activity in our 10 Luxury Activities in the Mamanuca Islands.

Day 4 – Mamanuca Islands

We’re betting you didn’t have time to do everything on your Mamanuca Islands’ bucket list so far, so now’s your chance to catch up on anything you missed yesterday. Alternatively, why not treat yourself to a scuba diving trip to see why they call Fiji the “Soft Coral Capital”? If you’re a keen surfer, some of the best surf breaks in Fiji are right here in the Mamanucas – see 8 Best Surf Resorts in the Mamanuca Islands for resorts with transport and gear. Or if you want to take it easy, why not take a boat trip to Cloud 9; a floating pizza bar over the Ro Ro Reef? Find out more about Cloud 9 on Viator and Tripadvisor.

Check out The Luxury Guide to the Mamanuca Islands for more inspiration on what to do.

It’s a different pace of life here, where resorts are boutique and adult-only ensuring ultimate tranquillity for your deluxe getaway. Special experiences in the Yasawa Islands include swimming with manta rays, available between May and October, as well as boat trips to the Blue Lagoon and the breathtaking Sawa-i-Lau Caves.

Luxury Experiences in the Yasawa Islands

Day 6 – Yasawa Islands

You’ll be glad to spend an extra day in these islands of paradise. The Yasawa Islands are not a place you’ll want to leave too quickly when there’s sensational scuba diving to experience, private island picnics to enjoy with your loved one, and the Fijian culture to immerse in. In addition, your resort will be able to organise a kava ceremony, a welcoming ceremony where a narcotic drink called kava is shared between visitors and a village chief. Especially at the Yasawa Island Resort & Spa, you’ll get the chance to try a traditional feast cooked in an underground oven called a lovo.

See The Luxury Guide to the Yasawa Islands for more inspiration on what to do.

Day 7 – Yasawa Islands to Nadi

Travel time: 35 minutes

End your time in Fiji in style with a helicopter or seaplane flight back to Nadi International Airport. Join Pacific Islands Air, Island Hoppers Fiji or Turtle Airways for a remarkable flight over the Yasawa and the Mamanuca Islands. There’s nothing like seeing the coral reefs decorating the azure waters from above! Your flight will arrive at Nadi Airport (or Denarau where airport transfers are available) where you’ll connect with your flight to your next destination.
