Most islands that tourists visit in Fiji have a wide range of shops available, especially on Viti Levu (the main island), slightly less so on Vanua Levu and even less on the outer islands. Shops are few and far between on the Mamanuca, Yasawa, Lomaivitiand Lau islands, where resorts often fill the gaps for guests.

Grocery Stores in Fiji

Grocery stores in Fiji are primarily found in urban areas and larger towns, while small convenience stores and market stalls are easy to find in smaller communities on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. You’ll find well-stocked supermarkets in cities like Suva, Nadi, and Lautoka, offering a wide range of local and imported products and with long opening hours from early morning to late evening daily. However, smaller islands and rural areas often have limited options, with basic provisions available in local shops. There are no grocery stores in the Lau and Yasawa Islands in the traditional sense, apart from the occasional pop-up store selling tinned goods and staples like flour, rice, etc. Some of the Mamanuca Island resorts have small convenience stores. If you need supplies on these islands, it’s best to inquire with your accommodation host and see if they can arrange it for you.

Produce Markets and Roadside Stalls in Fiji

When it comes to fruit and vegetables, you have even more options in Fiji. Small roadside stalls display baskets of coconuts, pineapples by the piece, taro and sometimes even fish. You’ll also come across larger roadside stalls, which are usually stocked with a variety of fruit and vegetables. These roadside markets can mainly be found along the main roads of Viti Levu, Taveuni and a little less so on Vanua Levu.

Medical Centres in Fiji

Medical centres in Fiji are typically found in urban areas and larger towns of the most populated islands, offering basic healthcare services in clean and modern facilities. Medical centres in Fiji have various opening hours but are typically open from 8/9 am to 5 pm or 9 pm Monday to Saturday. They are typically closed on Sundays.

Medical centres can also be found in some of Fiji’s larger resorts, such as Plantation Island Resort and Mana Island Resort in the Mamanuca Islands and Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the Coral Coast of Viti Levu.

Fiji’s main hospitals are on the main island, Viti Levu, offering specialist services, surgery and outpatient clinics. There are also outlying hospitals in urban areas across the islands offering basic services and facilities. Hospitals are usually open 24/7.

Fuel Stations in Fiji

Need to fuel up? Fuel stations in Fiji tend to be open for long hours daily, with a few options that are also open 24/7. Note that fuel stations are usually fully serviced, and an attendant will fill your vehicle for you; tell the attendant how much you want to fill up. Pay at the counter.

Fuel stations in Fiji are primarily found on the larger islands with road networks, such as Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as well as Ovalau and Taveuni. You’ll find them concentrated in towns and along major highways, but don’t expect to see them on smaller, less developed islands where boats are the main mode of transport.

Communication Services in Fiji

When it comes to staying connected, Fiji’s phone networks provide the most reliable and convenient option, as you can pick up SIM cards from Nadi International Airport on arrival, as well as some convenience stores and supermarkets. Otherwise, free WiFi is offered at high-end resorts, but expect to pay for an internet connection in most accommodations (when available) and internet cafes. Post offices also have a good presence in the most populated islands of Fiji.

Offering postal and secretarial services, there are several post offices across Fiji. Opening hours are typically from 8/9:30 am to 3/4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

FedEx and DHL also have a presence in Fiji, with some stores like Jack’s of Fiji offering door-to-door freight with DHL.

Internet and WiFi

Internet and WiFi are certainly limited in Fiji, and are mostly offered by resorts and hotels either free of charge or for a fee. For this reason, we recommend getting a local SIM card and using a data plan as the best way to access the internet. Banks and ATMs in Fiji

Should you want to exchange currency or withdraw some cash, there are a few options in Fiji. We recommend getting the cash you need from the main towns of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu before exploring the rest of the islands.

Banks, usually along with ATMs, can be found across the urban areas of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as well as limited options in Taveuni and Ovalau.
